ICAR-IIMR Honoured with Certificate of Excellence in Maize Research & Innovation at SEIA 2026

Ludhiana, Punjab | June 2026

The ICAR–Indian Institute of Maize Research (ICAR-IIMR), Ludhiana has been conferred with the prestigious “Certificate of Excellence in Maize Research & Innovation” at the Sugar–Ethanol & BioEnergy International Awards (SEIA) 2026. The award was presented during the Sugar–Ethanol & BioEnergy India Conference (SEIC) 2026, held at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake.

This distinguished recognition celebrates ICAR-IIMR’s exceptional contributions to strengthening India's bio-energy ecosystem through pioneering maize research, innovative technologies, and effective dissemination of scientific advancements to stakeholders across the country.

A key factor behind this achievement is the successful implementation of the flagship project, “Enhancement of Maize Production in Catchment Areas of Ethanol Industries.” The initiative has made a significant impact across 15 states and more than 75 districts, promoting sustainable maize cultivation, improving farmer participation in bio-energy value chains, and supporting India's ambitious ethanol blending programme.

The award also acknowledges the visionary leadership and dedicated efforts of the institute’s Director, Dr. H.S. Jat (former Director), and Dr. S. L. Jat, Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator of the project. Their strategic guidance and commitment have played a crucial role in advancing maize-based bio-energy initiatives and strengthening linkages between farmers and the ethanol industry.

This national recognition reflects the collective dedication, scientific excellence, and collaborative spirit of the entire ICAR-IIMR team. It underscores the institute’s pivotal role in positioning maize as a strategic crop for biofuel production, energy security, climate resilience, and sustainable agricultural development.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S.L. Jat emphasized that the recognition serves as both an honour and a motivation to further accelerate research and innovation in maize-based bio-energy solutions that contribute to the nation's sustainable development goals.

The achievement marks another significant milestone in ICAR-IIMR’s journey of scientific excellence and reaffirms its commitment to supporting a greener, energy-secure, and self-reliant India through cutting-edge agricultural research and innovation.

Heartiest congratulations to the entire ICAR-IIMR family on this remarkable accomplishment and well-deserved national recognition. The institute’s continued efforts are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable agriculture and renewable energy in India.
